Ethos x Social Networks

If someone was to visit one of my social network pages, they would have many different opinions, some opinions may be contrasting. My social networking sites, are for my personal use only and I display all different aspects of my personality. Sometimes I make jokes on my page and other times I may talk about political issues or current events. Because of the constant jokes, people may find be very humorous. I always make jokes in my tweets, some are random and others relate to things that have happened during my day. Many people might find my jokes to be offensive. Because they might find the jokes offensive they would probably think I am a mean person, which isn't true. I am just a straight forward person and sometimes use humor to give my opinion. My jokes are never targeted to a specific person. Aside from joking, I often tweet about my daily activity. I talk about going from class and work. Because I this, people might look at me as a hard working person. I talk about school a lot and sometimes mention that I am getting started on homework or just finished homework. This can be positive for ethos because people may look at me as a hardworking person who take school serious. The jokes I tell is also a positive form if ethos because humor goes towards likability. My humor would not be a positive form of ethos for those who do not like my sense of humor.

Inaugural Speech Analysis

In the presidential inauguration of 2013, returning President Barack Obama delivered a speech that touched based on many of today's current issues. Obama used his credibility and similarities to citizens to draw in listeners and to also attract those who may oppose him. Some of the issues addressed were the economy, rising of the middle class, woman's rights, gay rights, immigration, social security, healthcare, college students, and also rebuilding alliances with other countries. At least one of these topics appeal to every one of the citizens of the United States, which made his speech that much better. The current issues addressed were the ones that allowed him to have a second term, because these are the things that must change. The usage of these topics in the speech, demonstrate the "connections" form of ethos. People connect to these topics, making the speech more persuasive for them.
The speech would not have been as strong if the issues addressed were issues that majority of the citizens didn't apply to. Obama spoke on problems that are rarely addressed or even attempted to solve. For example, gay rights. This is the first inaugural speech where the gay community was taken into consideration and their problems were talked about. "Our journey is not complete until our gay brothers and sisters are treated like anyone else under the law - for if we are truly created equal, then surely the love we commit to one another must be equal as well", is what President Obama said in order to defend gay rights. This quote was surely appealing to the LGBTQ community, and also it supporters.
Another group who's rights were tales about was women. Even after the right to vote was given , women have still been given the short end of the stick. Barack Obama said, "For our journey is not complete until our wives, our mothers, and daughters can earn a living equal to their efforts", this quote was specifically appealing for myself because I am a woman. When I graduate from college and I am looking for a stable career, I do not want to have to worry about issues such as not being able to find a job because if my gender, or being paid less because of my gender.
Other issues such as immigration, Medicare, social security, and economy are just as important. Economy is one of the most important issues addressed because many of the problems the United States is facing is due to a failing economy, with the growth of the economy many of the problems will be solved.
Another thing that made the speech strong, was the fact that the president often used the word "we" and the phrase "my fellow Americans." These words creates a bond between the president and the citizens. It creates an allusion that he is one of us and facing the same problems that we are, even if he isn't. The bond made by using those words, made his speech more believable. He isn't only going to fix these problems because he has to, but because he is suffering just as much as everyone else.
To sum everything up, majority of the speech was about equality. Equality between financial and social classes, equality between races and ethnicities, genders, age, and sexual orientation. The biggest goal of President Barack Obama is to make sure all of his citizens feel equal and have freedom. His goal is to maintain what our country was built upon, freedom, making sure all people have the right to Life, Liberty, and Pursuit of Happiness.

Marijuana v Alcohol

This image uses a comparison between the substance Marijuana, and alcohol to argue that marijuana should be legal. Marijuana is an illegal drug in majority of the United States, and the few that have Marijuana legal; it is only used for medicinal purposes. Some states are in the process of completely decriminalizing Marijuana, and some states have already done so. Alcohol is legal in all 50 states of the U.S and has been since the ending of the prohibition in December of 1933. This picture is arguing that Marijuana should be legalized rather than alcohol because alcohol has more negative effects. The first image for Marijuana shows three friends smoking and the first image for alcohol is three friends drinking.  The second image for marijuana still shows the friends inside of the house, while the people who were drinking are driving. The last image for marijuana has the group of friends with a rainbow, tie dye background indicating that the friends are happy and at peace. The last image for alcohol shows that the friends have got into a car accident and started a fire. The effects of alcohol can be very negative to you and the people around you. It may cause you to act angry, sad, argumentative, and other ways that maybe offensive to others.  After drinking alcohol, the effects or “hangover” can last many hours after, maybe even days. The euphoric feeling after smoking marijuana is not long term and you will still be able to go on with daily activities. People are known to have severe headaches and turning stomachs after consuming too much alcohol. This image is targeted to people who believe marijuana should be illegal. The importance of this image is that many states are in the process of legalizing or decriminalizing marijuana. Although it is becoming legal, some people may disagree, and think it should stay illegal.

Object That Represents Me

What object best represents me?

A purple ballpoint ink pen would best represent my individuality.
It represents me in many ways.
The purple ink would show how cool, calm and collected i am.
The ballpoint would show how smooth and consistent i am.
The comparison to the object would represent how i am always prepared for any obstacle and that i am always reliable when needed
